$70 per extraction facial. Compare that to $200+ at a Western dermatologist for a similar procedure — or the cost of acne scarring treatments later if extractions aren’t done properly.
The Korean philosophy
Korean skincare treats acne extraction as a skilled craft requiring proper training and technique. Rather than leaving acne to resolve on its own (risking scarring) or attacking it aggressively (causing more scarring), the Korean approach uses precise, gentle pressure with sterile tools followed by healing LED and calming treatments. The goal is clear skin without the battlefield.
The ritual
Deep cleanse
10 minA thorough double cleanse removes all surface oil, makeup, and sunscreen. An enzyme or BHA pre-treatment softens pore plugs to make extraction easier and less traumatic.
Steam
10 minWarm steam opens pores and softens the contents of clogged follicles. This is essential — extracting from closed pores causes unnecessary trauma and scarring.
Professional extraction
20-30 minThe esthetician works methodically across your face using sterile tools and gloved fingers. Each extraction is done with precise angle and minimal pressure. It’s uncomfortable but not unbearable — the nose and chin are the most sensitive. You’ll hear satisfying (or horrifying) little pops.
LED therapy
15 minBlue LED light (415nm) kills acne-causing P. acnes bacteria. Red LED (630nm) reduces inflammation and promotes healing. Most Korean clinics use both. You’ll wear eye protection and lie still for 10-15 minutes.
Calming mask
10 minA cooling, anti-inflammatory mask (centella, aloe, or tea tree) calms the redness and irritation from extraction. This step is critical for preventing post-extraction inflammation.
Soothing serum + SPF
5 minA lightweight calming serum (no heavy moisturizers on acne-prone skin) and mineral SPF finish the treatment. Your skin is clean, calm, and protected.
Your first time
Extraction facials are the most “working” of all facial types — this isn’t a relaxation treatment, it’s a deep clean. After cleansing and steaming, the esthetician will spend 20-30 minutes methodically extracting clogged pores. It’s uncomfortable (especially around the nose), but Korean estheticians are trained to be as gentle as possible. The LED therapy afterward is painless and actually relaxing. You’ll leave with red spots where extractions were done — this fades within 12-24 hours. Your skin will look significantly clearer by the next morning. The first session always involves the most extraction; subsequent visits get easier as pores stay cleaner.
When to book
Don’t book the day before an event — extraction redness needs 12-24 hours to resolve. Book 2-3 days before an event for clear skin. During active acne, every 2-4 weeks prevents new congestion from building up. As acne improves, extend to monthly maintenance.

East vs West
The biggest difference is extraction technique and time. Korean estheticians train extensively in gentle extraction and spend 20-30 minutes on it. Western facials often rush through extraction in 10-15 minutes or skip it entirely. Korean acne facials also include LED therapy and calming treatments as standard; Western facials charge these as add-ons.
Aftercare
No makeup for 12 hours if possible. Use a gentle cleanser and calming products (centella, snail mucin) for 2-3 days. Avoid touching your face. No active ingredients (retinol, AHA, BHA) for 48 hours. SPF is essential — post-extraction skin is vulnerable to PIH.
