The Korean philosophy
Korean beauty has always pursued the “no-makeup makeup” look — skin so good you don’t need foundation. BB Glow is the clinical extension of that philosophy. Instead of covering imperfections daily, you treat the skin itself to look naturally even-toned. It’s skincare that doubles as cosmetics.
The ritual
Double cleanse
8 minOil and water-based cleansers remove every trace of makeup, sunscreen, and oil. The skin must be perfectly clean for even pigment absorption.
Skin tone matching
5 minThe esthetician selects a BB serum shade that matches your natural skin tone. Korean clinics typically carry 5-8 shades. The goal is enhancement, not coverage — one shade lighter than your natural tone for a brightening effect.
Numbing cream
15 minA thin layer of topical anesthetic is applied and left to absorb. The needles are shallower than microneedling, so less numbing is needed. Your face will feel tingly, then comfortably numb.
Nano-needling with BB serum
30 minThe main event. A nano-needling pen glides across your face in systematic passes, depositing the tinted BB serum into the upper epidermis. You’ll feel light vibration and mild pressure. The practitioner works section by section — forehead, cheeks, nose, chin — adjusting pressure for thinner skin areas.
Calming mask
15 minA cooling hydrogel or sheet mask soothes the treated skin and reduces redness. Centella and aloe-based formulas help the skin recover. You rest quietly while the mask works.
Moisturizer + SPF
5 minA gentle barrier-repair moisturizer seals the treatment. SPF protects the freshly treated skin, which is temporarily more photosensitive. You leave looking slightly flushed but already more even-toned.
Your first time
You’ll lie on a treatment bed while the esthetician cleanses and numbs your face. The BB Glow pen looks similar to a microneedling device but uses shorter, finer needles. It feels like light scratching with vibration — less intense than microneedling because the needles are shallower. The tinted serum is applied during the needling process. The whole treatment takes 60-90 minutes. After, your skin looks slightly pink but already noticeably more even-toned. The redness fades within 1-2 days, and the BB Glow effect becomes more apparent as inflammation subsides. Plan to skip heavy makeup for 24 hours. The next morning, you’ll wake up and wonder why your skin looks so good without foundation.
When to book
Book at least 3 days before an event — mild redness needs a day or two to settle, and the full glow emerges at day 3. For best results, do a series of 3 sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart, then maintain every 4-6 weeks. Avoid booking right before heavy sun exposure. Stop retinol and exfoliating acids 5 days before your appointment.

East vs West
Korean clinics pioneered BB Glow and have refined the technique over thousands of treatments. The BB serums used in Korean clinics tend to be more sophisticated — multiple shades, skin-benefiting ingredients beyond just pigment. Western providers often charge 2x for the same treatment with fewer shade options and less customization.
Aftercare
No makeup for 24 hours. Avoid retinol, AHA/BHA, and exfoliation for 5 days. Use gentle cleanser, ceramide moisturizer, and SPF 50+ religiously. No saunas, steam rooms, or heavy sweating for 48 hours.
