$300/area for cryolipolysis. The same treatment branded as CoolSculpting costs $750-1200/area at a US med-spa. The machine doesn’t know what the clinic charged you.
The Korean philosophy
Korean aesthetic clinics approach body contouring the same way they approach skincare: make the best technology affordable enough for regular people. CoolSculpting in the US is marketed as a luxury procedure. In Korea, it’s positioned as a practical option — same machines, same results, accessible pricing.
The ritual
Area marking
5 minThe practitioner marks the target area on your body, identifying exactly where the applicator will be placed for maximum fat reduction. Photos are taken for before/after comparison.
Gel pad application
3 minA protective gel pad is placed on the treatment area to protect the skin from the cooling panels. This barrier prevents frostbite while allowing the cold to reach the fat layer beneath.
Applicator suction
5 minThe vacuum applicator is placed on the marked area and suctions the fat fold between two cooling panels. You’ll feel strong pulling and pressure. It’s uncomfortable for the first 5-10 minutes, then the area goes numb from the cold.
Cooling cycle
40 minThe cooling panels maintain a precise temperature for 35-45 minutes. You can read, scroll your phone, or nap during this phase. The area is completely numb so you won’t feel much.
Removal and massage
5 minThe applicator is removed, revealing a firm, cold “stick of butter” shape of frozen tissue. The practitioner immediately massages this area for 2-3 minutes to break up the crystallized fat cells — this step significantly improves results. It’s the most uncomfortable part but it’s brief.
Your first time
You’ll change into a gown and the practitioner marks the treatment area. When the applicator suctions on, it feels like a strong vacuum pulling your skin — tight and uncomfortable. Then the cold kicks in and within 5-10 minutes, the area goes completely numb. For the next 35-45 minutes, you’re just lying there — bring a book or your phone. When the applicator comes off, the treated area looks like a frozen rectangle of tissue (the “butter stick”). The massage that follows is the worst part — 2-3 minutes of kneading the frozen area. After that, you get dressed and leave. Soreness and numbness in the area are normal for 1-2 weeks. Results appear gradually over 2-3 months.
When to book
Plan at least 3 months before any event where you want visible results — fat elimination is gradual. Most areas benefit from 1-2 sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Don’t schedule right before a beach vacation — the treated area may be slightly bruised or tender for the first week. Best time to start: early fall for a summer body, or January for spring results.

East vs West
The machines are literally the same — Korean clinics use the same FDA-cleared cryolipolysis devices as US CoolSculpting providers. The difference is pure economics: lower clinic overhead, higher patient volume, and competitive pricing in Koreatown mean you pay $200-400/area vs $600-1200/area. Same technology, same results, dramatically different price tag.
Aftercare
Wear comfortable, loose clothing after treatment. The treated area may be red, bruised, swollen, or numb for 1-2 weeks — all normal. Stay hydrated to support your body’s fat elimination process. Light exercise is fine after 24 hours. Results develop gradually — don’t panic if you don’t see changes immediately.
