$40 for a paraffin treatment. That’s the price of one fancy hand cream — except this delivers deeper hydration in 30 minutes than a month of daily lotion application.
The Korean philosophy
Korean beauty extends beyond the face — well-maintained hands and feet are part of the complete presentation. Paraffin treatments are a mainstay in Korean nail salons, offered routinely rather than as a luxury add-on. The philosophy: if you’re investing in skincare for your face, your hands (which show age just as fast) deserve the same attention.
The ritual
Cleansing and exfoliation
5 minHands or feet are washed and gently exfoliated with a scrub to remove dead skin cells. This ensures the paraffin and moisturizers can penetrate as deeply as possible.
Moisturizer application
3 minA rich, hydrating cream or oil is massaged into the skin before the wax is applied. The paraffin will seal this moisture in and help it absorb more deeply than topical application alone.
Paraffin dipping
5 minYour hands or feet are dipped into the warm liquid paraffin 3-5 times, with each layer allowed to solidify slightly before the next dip. The temperature is warm and soothing — like dipping into a warm bath. Each layer builds up the insulating cocoon.
Wrapping
2 minThe wax-coated hands or feet are wrapped in plastic bags and then plush towels or heated mitts. This traps the heat and creates a mini-sauna effect for maximum moisture penetration.
Rest and absorption
18 minYou sit comfortably for 15-20 minutes while the heat and moisture work their magic. This is the relaxation phase — many people find the sustained warmth deeply calming.
Wax removal and massage
7 minThe wax is gently peeled off in satisfying sheets, taking dead skin with it. A final moisturizing massage locks in the hydration and leaves your hands or feet feeling incredibly soft.
Your first time
This is one of the most relaxing treatments you can get. After a quick scrub, your hands (or feet) are dipped into warm, melted wax — it feels like dipping into a warm bath, not hot at all. After a few dips to build up layers, your hands are wrapped in plastic and towels. You sit for 15-20 minutes enjoying the warmth. When the wax is peeled off (oddly satisfying), your skin is immediately softer and smoother than any hand cream could achieve. No pain, no weirdness — pure pampering. Great as an add-on to a manicure or pedicure.
When to book
No timing restrictions — you can do this anytime. Great before an event where your hands will be visible (ring photos, handshakes, presentations). During winter months, every 2 weeks keeps dry, cracked skin at bay. Pairs perfectly with a manicure or pedicure — book them together for the best results.

East vs West
The technique is the same, but Korean salons include exfoliation, pre-treatment moisturizer, and a finishing massage as standard — components that Western salons often charge extra for. Korean salons also offer this at nearly half the price, making it a regular maintenance treatment rather than an occasional splurge.
Aftercare
Apply a rich hand or foot cream immediately after and before bed for the next few days to maintain the softness. Wear cotton gloves or socks to bed for an overnight moisture boost. Avoid harsh soaps and hand sanitizers that strip moisture for 24 hours.
