$80 for a back facial. That’s less than one BHA body wash and body lotion combo — and this actually clears the bacne and scarring that body products can’t reach.
The Korean philosophy
In Korean bathhouse culture, every inch of skin deserves care — not just the face. Back facials are a natural extension of this philosophy. Your back has the same skin concerns as your face (clogged pores, acne, hyperpigmentation, texture), but it’s impossible to treat yourself. Korean spas make it routine and affordable.
The ritual
Double cleanse
8 minOil cleanser dissolves sunscreen and body product buildup. Water cleanser removes remaining debris. The back accumulates more product residue than the face due to sweat and friction from clothing.
Chemical exfoliation
8 minA BHA or AHA solution is applied to dissolve dead skin cells and loosen pore congestion. The back’s thicker skin tolerates slightly higher concentrations than the face.
Steam and extraction
15 minWarm steam opens pores, then the esthetician extracts blackheads, whiteheads, and congestion using sterile tools. The back often has deeper congestion than the face — this step is satisfying but can be mildly uncomfortable.
Targeted ampoules
8 minDepending on your concerns: niacinamide for dark spots, tea tree for active acne, centella for inflammation, or hyaluronic acid for hydration. Applied and massaged into freshly cleared skin.
Back sheet mask
15 minA large sheet mask designed for the back delivers concentrated actives while you relax. Some Korean spas use modeling masks (rubber masks) for better adhesion on the back’s curved surface.
LED therapy
10 minBlue LED for acne-causing bacteria, red LED for inflammation and scarring. The large panel covers the entire back surface.
Moisturizer + SPF
5 minA lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer and SPF (if your back will be exposed to sun) complete the treatment.
Your first time
You’ll lie face-down on a treatment table, usually in just underwear or wrapped in a towel with your back exposed. The esthetician cleanses your back, applies exfoliating solution, then steams and extracts congestion — similar to a face facial but on a larger area. The extraction part can be uncomfortable but the back is less sensitive than the face. A sheet mask goes on, then LED light therapy while you relax. The whole thing takes about an hour. You’ll leave with visibly smoother, clearer back skin. If you have back acne, expect a dramatic improvement after just one session. Wear a loose, clean shirt afterward.
When to book
Book 3-5 days before any backless outfit event — extraction can leave temporary marks that need a day or two to fade. For back acne, plan biweekly sessions for 2-3 months for a full clearing cycle. Monthly maintenance after that. Summer is prime season for back facials — book ahead as appointments fill up before beach and pool events.

East vs West
Korean jjimjilbang culture means full-body skincare is normalized — a back facial isn’t a novelty, it’s standard maintenance. Korean back facials include all the steps of a full face facial (double cleanse, chemical exfoliation, extraction, ampoules, mask, LED) as a single package. Western back facials are simpler and charge add-on fees for LED and premium products.
Aftercare
Wear a clean, loose-fitting shirt after treatment. Avoid tight clothing that causes friction on the treated area for 24 hours. If you have active back acne, change your bedsheets the night of your treatment. Avoid heavy backpack straps on treated skin for a day. Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic body moisturizer for the next few days.
