$70/session for a Korean chemical peel. That’s less than one bottle of Sunday Riley Good Genes — and this is the professional-grade version of what that serum is trying to do.
The Korean philosophy
Western peels are events — high concentration, dramatic peeling, weeks of recovery. Korean peels are maintenance — gentle enough to do every 2-3 weeks, minimal peeling, back to normal in a day. Same long-term results, dramatically different experience.
The ritual
Cleansing
5 minA pH-balanced cleanser removes all traces of oil and product. The acid needs direct contact with skin to work evenly — any residue can cause uneven penetration.
Skin analysis + acid selection
3 minThe esthetician examines your skin and selects the acid type and concentration. Lactic for sensitive skin, mandelic for pigmentation, glycolic for texture. This customization is what sets Korean peels apart.
Acid application
5 minThe acid solution is brushed onto your face in thin, even layers. You’ll feel a mild tingling or warmth — like a slight sunburn sensation. It’s noticeable but not painful. The esthetician watches your skin’s reaction carefully.
Neutralization
3 minAfter a precise amount of time (usually 3-7 minutes depending on the acid), a neutralizing solution is applied to stop the acid’s action. The tingling stops almost immediately.
Calming serum + mask
10 minA centella or aloe-based serum soothes the freshly peeled skin. A cooling mask locks in hydration and calms any residual warmth. This step is why Korean peels feel gentler than Western ones.
Moisturizer + SPF
3 minA ceramide-rich moisturizer rebuilds the barrier. SPF is layered on top. Your skin is more photosensitive for 5-7 days, so sun protection is essential.
Your first time
The room is clean and simple — treatment bed, good lighting, a small tray of products. After cleansing, the esthetician brushes a clear liquid onto your face. You’ll feel a tingle that builds for a minute or two — like a mild sting that plateaus and becomes tolerable. It’s nothing like the dramatic peels you’ve seen on social media. After a few minutes, they neutralize it and the sensation stops. A calming mask goes on, and you relax. You leave looking slightly flushed but presentable. Over the next day or two, you might notice minor flaking — nothing that can’t be hidden with moisturizer. No dramatic peeling sheets of skin.
When to book
Book 3-5 days before an event — any minor flaking will be done by then and you’ll be glowing. For maintenance, every 2-3 weeks builds cumulative results. Avoid booking within a week of a beach vacation or heavy sun exposure. Stop retinol and at-home acids 3 days before your appointment. Never get a peel on sunburned skin.

East vs West
Western peels often use 50-70% concentrations that cause visible peeling for 3-7 days. Korean peels use 15-30% concentrations with little to no visible peeling. The Korean approach requires more sessions but zero social downtime — nobody has to know you got a peel.
Aftercare
SPF 50+ mandatory. No other exfoliants (BHA, AHA, retinol) for 5-7 days. Focus on hydration and barrier repair. Ceramides and centella are your friends.
