The Korean philosophy
Korean filler culture operates on a simple principle: the best filler job is one nobody notices. While Western aesthetics has a “more is more” tendency (bigger lips, sharper cheekbones), Korean aesthetics aims for harmony and proportion. The consultation is as important as the injection itself — understanding facial balance, discussing realistic outcomes, and planning a conservative approach.
The ritual
Face analysis
10 minThe injector examines your facial proportions, areas of volume loss, and skin quality. Photos are taken from multiple angles. A treatment plan is drawn directly on your face with a marking pen — showing exactly where filler will be placed and how much.
Expectations discussion
5 minThe Korean consultation is thorough. The injector discusses what’s realistic, shows before/after examples, and may suggest using less filler than you expected. Korean injectors frequently under-deliver intentionally — you can always add more later, but you can’t easily remove too much.
Numbing
5 minTopical numbing cream or ice is applied to the injection areas. Most HA fillers also contain lidocaine in the gel itself, which numbs as it’s injected.
Precise injection
15 minThe injector uses fine needles or blunt-tip cannulas to place small amounts of filler at strategic points. You’ll feel pressure and mild stinging. Korean technique favors multiple micro-deposits over large bolus injections — this creates more natural-looking results.
Massage and molding
5 minAfter injection, the injector gently massages the filler into the desired shape. This step is critical for smooth, natural results. Korean injectors spend significant time on this step.
Ice and post-care
5 minIce is applied to reduce swelling. You receive aftercare instructions and are often given arnica cream for any bruising.
Your first time
The consultation is the most important part. A good Korean injector will spend more time discussing your goals and managing expectations than actually injecting. When the injections start, you’ll feel pressure and mild stinging — it’s uncomfortable but brief. Cannula techniques (used by many Korean injectors) reduce bruising significantly. You’ll see immediate volume improvement, but there will also be swelling. Don’t judge your results for 2 weeks — swelling distorts the final look. Minor asymmetry and firmness are normal for the first week. The “final” result at 2 weeks should look natural and refreshed, not overdone.
When to book
Book at least 2-3 weeks before any event to allow all swelling and bruising to resolve. Plan a touch-up appointment 2-4 weeks after the initial treatment for fine-tuning. HA fillers last 6-18 months depending on the product and injection site. Under-eye filler lasts longest; lip filler metabolizes fastest.

East vs West
The biggest difference is philosophy, not technology. Korean injectors are known globally for their “no filler” look — conservative amounts, precise placement, and natural results. Western aesthetics has trended toward more dramatic enhancement (lip augmentation, cheek sculpting). Korean approach: look like yourself, just refreshed. The products used (Juvederm, Restylane) are often the same.
Aftercare
Avoid touching or massaging the area for 24 hours (unless directed by your injector). No intense exercise, alcohol, or hot showers for 24-48 hours. Sleep elevated the first night. Apply arnica for bruising. If you notice hard lumps, uneven swelling, or vision changes, contact your injector immediately.
