Western
$300 per session at Korean clinics. A Western fractional CO2 session runs $1000+ — and you’ll need the same number of sessions for comparable results. The savings add up dramatically.
The Korean philosophy
The Korean approach to fractional laser embodies the “low and slow” philosophy: why endure one week of severe redness and peeling when you can get the same cumulative results with multiple sessions that each require only 2-3 days of mild downtime? Korean clinics prioritize fitting treatments into your life rather than disrupting it.
The ritual
Cleansing
5 minA thorough cleanse removes all product from the skin. The laser must hit clean, bare skin for consistent energy delivery.
Numbing cream
25 minTopical anesthetic is applied generously and left for 20-30 minutes. Fractional CO2 is more intense than laser toning, so proper numbing is essential for comfort.
Laser treatment
15 minThe fractional CO2 laser is applied in systematic passes across the treatment area. At Korean settings (lower energy, more passes), you’ll feel heat and a prickling sensation through the numbing. The practitioner adjusts intensity based on the area — deeper for scars, lighter for thin skin areas.
Cooling treatment
5 minImmediate post-laser cooling with a cold air device or compress. This reduces heat in the skin and minimizes inflammation.
Growth factor serum
5 minA growth factor or PDRN serum is applied to the freshly treated skin. The laser-created micro-channels allow deep penetration of these repair ingredients.
Barrier repair cream
3 minA rich ceramide and centella cream protects the treated skin. No SPF immediately — your skin needs to breathe first. SPF the next morning.
Your first time
This is a more serious treatment than laser toning. After thorough numbing, the CO2 laser feels like hot pinpricks across your face — uncomfortable but manageable with the anesthetic. The treatment takes about 15 minutes of active laser time. Afterward, your face looks and feels like a moderate sunburn — red, warm, and tight. Over the next 2-5 days (Korean protocol), your skin will feel rough and may lightly peel. By day 5-7, fresh, smoother skin emerges. Don’t plan social events for 3-5 days after. The results are worth the downtime — especially for acne scars and deep texture issues.
When to book
Book at least 2 weeks before any event. Plan your series during fall or winter to avoid sun exposure during healing. Treatments are spaced 4-8 weeks apart for a series of 3-5. Stop retinol and acids 7 days before. Take the following day off work if possible for the first session until you know how your skin reacts.
Best for
Not recommended for
East vs West
Western fractional CO2 treatments tend to use higher energy settings for more dramatic single-session results — but with 7-14 days of significant downtime. Korean clinics use lower settings across more sessions (3-5 versus 1-2), achieving comparable cumulative results with only 2-5 days of downtime per session. Total cost in Korea is often less than a single Western session.
Aftercare
This is a serious treatment that requires diligent aftercare. SPF 50+ mandatory once skin can tolerate it (usually day 2). No actives for 7-10 days. Ceramide moisturizer multiple times daily. Avoid sweating, swimming, and direct sun. Your skin is essentially healing from controlled burns — treat it accordingly.
