The Korean philosophy

Korean men are the world’s largest consumers of skincare products per capita, and Korean clinics have developed male-specific protocols that the West lacks entirely. Male skin is biochemically different: thicker, oilier, with larger pores and more collagen (until it doesn’t — men lose collagen faster after 30). Treating male skin with female-focused products and protocols is suboptimal.

The ritual

1

Deep cleansing

10 min

An oil-control cleanser designed for thicker male skin removes excess sebum and surface debris. Steam softens pore plugs for the extraction that follows.

2

BHA peel

10 min

A salicylic acid (BHA) peel is applied. BHA is oil-soluble, meaning it penetrates into oily pores where AHA can’t reach. Concentration is adjusted for thicker male skin — typically 2-4%.

3

Extraction

10 min

Professional extraction removes blackheads and sebum plugs from the BHA-loosened pores. More thorough than a standard facial extraction because the BHA has pre-dissolved the plugs.

4

Laser toning

15 min

Low-energy laser passes tighten the collagen around pore walls, visibly reducing pore size over multiple sessions. Settings are adjusted for male skin thickness.

5

LED + finish

15 min

Blue LED kills acne bacteria. Red LED stimulates collagen. An oil-free, mattifying moisturizer and SPF finish the treatment. Your skin looks cleaner and less shiny immediately.

Your first time

Korean clinics are very male-friendly — about 40% of their clients are men. You don’t need to know anything about skincare to book this. The esthetician will cleanse your face, apply a peel (mild tingling), extract blackheads (mildly uncomfortable but satisfying), do laser passes (feels like tiny warm snaps), and finish with LED and moisturizer. Total time: 60 minutes. You walk out with visibly cleaner pores and less oily skin. No one will know you had a treatment unless you tell them — there’s no visible sign afterward.

When to book

Every 2-4 weeks for consistent results. No timing restrictions — zero downtime. You can go straight to work or anywhere else. After 4-6 sessions, you’ll notice your pores staying cleaner longer between treatments.

East vs West

Western spas rarely offer male-specific treatments — men get the same facial as women, which doesn’t account for thicker skin, higher oil production, or larger pores. Korean clinics developed dedicated male protocols with adjusted peel concentrations, laser settings, and product formulations. The result is significantly better outcomes for male skin.

Aftercare

Use an oil-free moisturizer and SPF daily. Avoid touching your face. If you shave, use a clean razor and a gentle, alcohol-free aftershave. BHA cleanser at home can extend the benefits between sessions.
