$200/session at Korean clinics for 10 sessions = $2,000 total. At Western pricing ($500/session), the same 10 sessions would cost $5,000. That’s $3,000 saved — enough for a vacation to Korea itself.
The Korean philosophy
Tattoo removal is a marathon, not a sprint — it requires multiple sessions spaced weeks apart. Korean clinics price each session affordably enough that completing the full course is financially realistic. Western pricing often causes people to abandon treatment midway because the per-session cost is unsustainable over 8-12 sessions.
The ritual
Skin assessment
3 minThe practitioner examines your tattoo’s ink colors, density, age, and skin type to select the appropriate wavelength and energy settings. Progress photos are compared to previous sessions.
Numbing cream
20 minTopical anesthetic is applied to the tattoo area and left to take effect. Tattoo removal is one of the more uncomfortable laser procedures, so proper numbing is important.
Laser treatment
10 minThe picosecond laser is applied over the tattoo in systematic passes. Each pulse feels like a hot rubber band snap or grease splatter. The numbing helps but you’ll still feel it. Multiple passes may be done for dense areas. You’ll see an immediate whitening of the treated area (frosting) — this is the ink shattering.
Cooling and aftercare
5 minIce packs and a soothing ointment are applied. The area is bandaged. You receive detailed aftercare instructions for the healing period.
Your first time
Tattoo removal is genuinely uncomfortable — even with numbing. Each pulse feels like a hot snap against your skin, and the sensation is more intense than getting the tattoo was. That said, sessions are short (5-15 minutes of active laser). Immediately after, the tattoo looks white and frosted — this fades to redness within hours. Over the next 1-2 weeks, the area may blister, scab, and peel. This is normal. Follow aftercare instructions carefully. The tattoo will look lighter once healed. Each session removes more ink. Complete removal takes 6-12+ sessions. Be patient and commit to the full course.
When to book
Space sessions 6-8 weeks apart to allow full healing and immune clearance between treatments. Start in fall/winter if the tattoo is in a sun-exposed area. The full course takes 1-2 years. Keep the area out of direct sun throughout the treatment course. Don’t shave or wax over the tattoo between sessions.

East vs West
The technology is identical — Korean clinics use the same PicoSure and PicoWay devices as top Western dermatologists. The only difference is price. Korean clinics can offer dramatically lower per-session pricing because of higher patient volume and lower overhead. Over a 10-session removal course, you could save $3,000-6,000.
Aftercare
Keep the area clean and apply prescribed ointment. Do not pick at blisters or scabs. Avoid swimming, saunas, and direct sun for 2 weeks. SPF 50+ on the area once healed. Report any signs of infection (increasing redness, pus, fever) immediately.
