$500 for a thread lift that lasts 12-18 months. Compare that to $3,000+ for the same procedure at a Western clinic, or $15,000+ for a surgical facelift. This is the most cost-effective lifting treatment available.

The Korean philosophy

Korean aesthetics prizes subtle enhancement over dramatic transformation. The thread lift embodies this perfectly — no one should be able to tell you had a procedure. They should just think you look rested, younger, and slightly more defined. It’s the anti-facelift facelift.

The ritual

1

Consultation + facial mapping

10 min

The practitioner examines your face and marks insertion points and lifting vectors with a surgical pen. This is the most important step — the artistry of a thread lift is in the placement. Korean practitioners spend significant time on mapping because natural-looking results depend on precise angles.

2

Cleansing + numbing

15 min

The treatment area is thoroughly disinfected with antiseptic solution. Local anesthetic (lidocaine injections) is administered at each insertion point. You’ll feel small pinches, then numbness. The numbing takes full effect within 5-10 minutes.

3

Thread insertion

20 min

Using fine needles or blunt-tipped cannulas, the practitioner inserts the PDO threads beneath the skin along the pre-marked paths. You’ll feel pressure and slight tugging but minimal pain thanks to the anesthetic. Each thread takes 1-2 minutes to place. Depending on the treatment area, 4-20 threads may be used.

4

Positioning + adjustment

10 min

Once all threads are placed, the practitioner gently adjusts them to achieve the desired lift. You’ll be shown the result in a mirror. Minor adjustments can be made at this stage. The barbs on the threads hold the tissue in its new position.

5

Post-treatment cooling

5 min

Ice packs and a calming serum are applied to reduce swelling and discomfort. The practitioner reviews aftercare instructions. You’ll leave looking slightly swollen but already lifted.

Your first time

This is a medical procedure, so the setting is clinical — a treatment room in a licensed clinic, not a spa. After consultation and marking, the practitioner numbs the treatment areas with small lidocaine injections (the most uncomfortable part). Once numb, you’ll feel pressure and a strange tugging sensation as threads are inserted, but it’s not painful. The procedure itself takes 30-45 minutes for most areas. Afterward, you’ll see immediate lifting, along with some swelling. The swelling peaks at day 2-3 and resolves by day 5-7. Mild bruising is common but coverable with concealer after day 2. You’ll be asked to sleep face-up for a week and avoid wide mouth opening for a few days. The final result emerges at 2-3 months as new collagen forms around the threads.

When to book

Book at least 2-3 weeks before any event — swelling needs 5-7 days to resolve, and the collagen-building lift improves for weeks after. For weddings or major events, do the procedure 2-3 months in advance for peak results. Avoid booking during allergy season if you sneeze frequently. Plan to take 2-3 days off work if you’re self-conscious about mild swelling.

East vs West

Korea performs more thread lifts than any other country, and Korean practitioners have some of the highest thread-count-per-procedure in the world. Western clinics tend to use fewer threads at higher cost. Korean clinics also offer a wider variety of thread types (barbed, cogged, smooth, screw) and placement techniques refined through massive case volume. The 70-80% price difference makes Korea the global destination for thread lifts.

Aftercare

Sleep face-up for 7 days. No wide mouth opening, aggressive chewing, or dental work for 2 weeks. Avoid saunas, heavy exercise, and facial massage for 3 weeks. Gentle cleanser and moisturizer only — no retinol or acids for 2 weeks. SPF 50+ daily.
