Western
$150/session for microneedling. That’s less than one jar of La Mer — and this actually rebuilds collagen instead of just sitting on top of your skin.
The Korean philosophy
Korean microneedling is more conservative than Western approaches — shallower depths, more frequent sessions, less downtime. The philosophy: many gentle treatments beat one aggressive one. This matches the Korean preference for gradual, sustainable improvement over dramatic one-time results.
The ritual
Cleansing
5 minA thorough double cleanse ensures a sterile surface. Any bacteria on the skin could be pushed into the micro-channels, so this step is critical for safety.
Numbing cream
25 minA topical anesthetic (lidocaine-based) is applied generously and left to absorb for 20-30 minutes. This is the longest part of the appointment. You’ll feel your face go tingly, then numb.
Microneedling passes
15 minThe practitioner moves an automated pen across your face in systematic passes. The pen’s tiny needles create micro-channels at controlled depths. You’ll feel vibration and mild pressure — the numbing cream handles the rest. Deeper passes on scars, lighter on thinner skin areas.
Growth factor infusion
5 minWhile the micro-channels are still open, a growth factor or peptide serum is applied and massaged in. Your skin absorbs it 200-300% more effectively than normal topical application. This is the Korean secret weapon — the needling is the delivery system.
Calming mask
10 minA cooling sheet mask or hydrogel mask soothes the treated skin and delivers additional calming ingredients. Your face will be red at this point — the mask helps bring it down.
Moisturizer + SPF
3 minA gentle barrier-repair moisturizer (ceramide-based) and mineral SPF finish the session. No active ingredients — your skin has enough going on.
Your first time
The room looks more clinical than spa-like. After cleansing, numbing cream goes on and you wait 20-30 minutes (bring your phone). Once numb, the microneedling pen feels like vibration and light scratching — the numbing cream does its job well. Some areas around the nose and jawline are more sensitive. The whole needling part takes about 15 minutes. After, your face looks and feels like a sunburn — red, warm, slightly tight. This is normal. The redness fades over 1-3 days. Plan to look a little rough for 48 hours. Don’t schedule this before a date.
When to book
Book at least 5-7 days before any event — you’ll need 2-3 days for redness to resolve and another few days for the glow to emerge. For acne scars, plan a series of 4-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Avoid scheduling during summer if possible — sun exposure on healing skin risks hyperpigmentation. Stop retinol 5 days before your appointment.

East vs West
Western microneedling often goes deeper and is combined with RF (radiofrequency) for more dramatic single-session results — but with more downtime and higher cost. Korean clinics use shallower depths with more frequent sessions and growth factor infusion, achieving comparable cumulative results with less disruption to your life.
Aftercare
Critical: no actives (retinol, vitamin C, AHA/BHA) for 5-7 days. Use only gentle cleanser, ceramide moisturizer, and SPF 50+. Your barrier is temporarily compromised — treat it like post-Accutane skin for a week.
