$300 for masseter Botox every 4-6 months. That’s less than a night guard for teeth grinding — and this actually slims your jawline while treating the clenching.

The Korean philosophy

The V-line face shape — a narrow, tapered jawline that forms a “V” from the cheekbones to the chin — is the defining aesthetic ideal in Korean beauty. Rather than surgical jaw reduction (which exists but is extreme), masseter Botox achieves a similar effect non-surgically by relaxing the jaw muscle so it gradually atrophies and slims down. It’s the Korean approach distilled: subtle, non-invasive, reversible enhancement.

The ritual

1

Consultation + jaw assessment

5 min

The practitioner asks you to clench your jaw while they palpate the masseter muscles to assess size, thickness, and asymmetry. Larger, thicker masseters respond more dramatically to treatment. They’ll discuss your goals — subtle slimming vs. dramatic contouring — and determine the appropriate dosage (typically 25-50 units per side).

2

Injection site marking

3 min

Small dots are marked on each side of the jaw where the injections will go. Korean practitioners typically use 3-5 injection points per side, carefully avoiding the superficial muscles that control your smile.

3

Botox injection

5 min

Using a very fine needle, the practitioner delivers Botox into the marked points on each masseter. Each injection takes seconds and feels like a small pinch. Most people describe it as mildly uncomfortable but not painful — no numbing cream is needed. The entire injection process takes about 5 minutes.

4

Post-treatment review

5 min

The practitioner reviews aftercare instructions. No massage or pressure on the jaw for 24 hours. Results timeline is explained: jaw relaxation in 1-2 weeks, visible slimming in 4-6 weeks. You can go straight back to work or out to dinner.

Your first time

This is one of the fastest and most straightforward aesthetic treatments you can get. You’ll sit in a treatment chair while the practitioner examines your jaw muscles. They’ll ask you to clench and relax so they can feel the muscle. Then, using a tiny needle, they inject Botox into a few points on each side of your jaw. Each injection feels like a brief pinch — it’s over before you register it. The whole thing takes 15-20 minutes including consultation. You walk out looking exactly the same. No swelling, no bruising (usually), no evidence of anything. Over the next 4-6 weeks, you’ll gradually notice your jawline looking slimmer and softer. If you grind your teeth at night, you’ll notice that stopping first — within a week. The slimming effect is subtle at first and becomes more noticeable over time. Most people’s friends and family just say they look “good” without being able to pinpoint why.

When to book

Book 6-8 weeks before an event for peak jawline slimming. The effects are gradual — this is not a last-minute treatment. For ongoing maintenance, every 4-6 months. With repeated treatments, some people find they need it less frequently as the muscle partially atrophies long-term. No timing restrictions — you can do this any day, any season. Avoid scheduling the day of a major meal or event where you’ll be chewing aggressively.

East vs West

Masseter Botox is the number one cosmetic procedure in Korea — practitioners there have performed orders of magnitude more treatments than their Western counterparts. This volume translates to superior technique: Korean clinics are better at asymmetry correction, natural-looking results, and avoiding complications like an uneven smile. The dosage is also more precise — Korean practitioners customize units based on muscle thickness rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. The 50-60% price savings is the cherry on top.

Aftercare

No rubbing or massaging the jaw area for 24 hours — this can cause the Botox to migrate. No lying face-down for 4 hours. Avoid intense exercise for 24 hours. Chew normally but avoid extremely hard or chewy foods for the first few days. If you notice any asymmetry after 2 weeks, contact your clinic for a touch-up.
